With no competition, new cross country coach still motivates Falcons to run

Trey Meadows, the new head coach of men’s and women’s cross country at UW-River Falls, is working to keep his runners motivated even though they will not compete. Meadows said that in the wake of the recent COVID-19 restrictions on campus he still wants this to be another great season for the Falcons.

It was a warm September day when the UWRF women’s cross-country team lined up for one of their most difficult races of the year. Following cold temperatures during training and a mild end of summer, the temperature soared to over 90 degrees by the time the Roy Griak Invitational began at the University of Minnesota. The meet is often one of the toughest on the schedule, and this year would be no different.

Both the UW-River Falls men and women's cross country teams saw runners put in career-best days on the course, but that did not translate into good finishes for either of the teams overall as the men placed last out of nine teams in the WIAC meet, while the women finished eighth out of nine teams.

It was a beautiful morning for a round of golf at Kilkarney Hills Golf Club on the outskirts of River Falls on Saturday, Sept. 13. It was the first event of the year for the UW-River Falls Falcons men’s and women’s cross country teams. The men finished in third place out of four teams, while the women placed fifth out of six.

Tia Harris becomes third UWRF runner ever to qualify for nationals
