The UW-River Falls softball team was finally able to get back on the field this past weekend, splitting two series against UW-Whitewater and UW-Platteville to open up WIAC play.

The Falcons softball team split a series against St. Mary’s University last Thursday in their first action since spring break. UWRF took a high-scoring game one by a score of 10-9 but fell to the Cardinals 6-3 in game two.

The Falcons softball team had a strong home opener on Saturday, April 8, taking down UW-Stevens Point 9-8 and 6-4 to sweep the Pointers and collect its first WIAC wins of the year.

Amber Galloway, a junior second baseman from Cottage Grove, Minnesota, finished the week with a spectacular hitting performance. Galloway went 8 for 17 on the weekend with a .526 on base percentage.

The Falcon softball team made big strides on its spring break tournament in Florida this past week. The team faced stiff competition and managed to rebound from its tough start to the season to post a 5-6 record over break by playing 11 games in six days.

The Falcons opened up their new softball field with an impressive performance Wednesday, April 13, dropping the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds 7-1 in the first game of their doubleheader and tied 3-3 with a finish to be announced later in their second match-up.

After an up and down start to the season and a successful Florida trip, the Falcons traveled to St. Kates University to avenge an earlier 8-0 loss in the season opener. UWRF looked like an entirely different team in this meeting, stretching the undefeated Wildcats to 13 innings before they fell 7-6.
