Women’s hockey starting goaltender no longer on team

Per University of Wisconsin-River Fall’s Director of Athletics Crystal Lanning, the UWRF women’s hockey team goaltender Tatyana Delaittre is no longer on the team. Delaittre was no longer on the team according the official UWRF sports website prior to the Falcons 5-1 loss to No. 9 UW-Eau Claire last Saturday at Hunt Arena.

Falcons hockey believes it has national championship caliber team

The UW-River Falls men’s hockey team has started the 2018-2019 season with a record of 3-1-2, a much-improved start compared to the 8-17-4 overall record the team had last season. Last weekend, the Falcons completed their season series with Concordia College at Hunt Arena, defeated the Cobbers on Friday 5-4 before tying them 1-1 on Saturday.

Falcons women’s hockey splits opening weekend games versus Adrian College

The eighth-ranked UW-River Falls women’s hockey team split their first two games this weekend in their season-opening series vs number-six ranked Adrian College. The Falcons lost their first game on Saturday in overtime 3-4 before rebounding and defeating the Bulldogs 4-3 on Sunday at Hunt Arena.

Texas fistfight brings Canadian athlete to UWRF in time for Year of Canada

Sometime after the fight, Savidant’s new friend Singerhouse chose to attend UWRF to play on the hockey team, and he convinced Savidant to join him in doing so. With Savidant being the only Canadian player on the UWRF men’s team, he hopes next year’s Year of Canada theme will bring more excitement to the game of hockey for both fans and players.

Athlete of the week: Haley Nielsen

January 31, 2018

Haley Nielsen, a junior from Plymouth, Minn., scored two goals last Friday night to help give the women’s hockey team a 7-5 win over UW-Superior. The Falcons responded by traveling to Superior the next day and defeating the Yellowjackets 5-0. Nielsen has six goals and 14 assists on the year, helping lead UWRF to a 15-4-2 record and the number five ranking in the country.

Veteran men's hockey coach Steve Freeman looks to rebuild Falcons program

December 6, 2017

Head men’s hockey coach Steve Freeman is in his 22th year as leader of the Falcons. He is the program-leader in total games won and led UW-River Falls to a WIAC championship as recently as 2016. He has won over 350 games and 11 WIAC titles in his time at UWRF. Freeman was named to the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame in 2016, with 10 WIAC coach of the year awards to his name. Freeman was also an assistant coach when UWRF won the national championship in 1994, and has been a part of all five appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four.

The Student Voice sat down with Freeman to discuss his history of success at UWRF and the growing pains his young team has faced in 2017.
