The UWRF Homecoming parade was set to start at 9 a.m. Oct. 10. The cool breeze and low-hanging sun made for ideal parade weather.

At about 9:05 a.m., the parade began with a whoop from the leading police car and the start of a drum cadence.

The UWRF marching band led the parade with a mix of music and chants to energize the crowd.

The band was followed by several sororities, the equestrian team and the UWRF rodeo team. In a reversal of last year’s parade, the College Democrats made an appearance with no Republican float in sight.

The College Democrats were followed by several fraternities before athletic teams rolled in and filled out the rest of the lineup. In another change from last year, more banners were displayed to distinguish each group.

Continuing a tradition from last year, the Meyer’s Middle School marching band brought up the rear and played the parade to its conclusion.

The parade was shorter than last year’s event, with some spectators commenting that fewer student organizations participated this year.
