The UW-River Falls women’s basketball opened its season with a tournament at the College of St. Benedict in Collegeville, Minnesota, this past weekend; the Falcons split the two games it played in the tournament.

The much improved UW-River Falls women’s soccer team saw its season come to a close last week during the semifinals of the conference playoffs.

The return of hockey is a dream for the fourth nationally ranked UW-River Falls women’s hockey team, but the Falcons were rudely awakened on Saturday, for the first two periods of the game, anyway, before coming back to defeat the St. Thomas Tommies 6-4 after trailing by two goals twice.

Both the UW-River Falls men and women’s cross country teams saw runners put in career-best days on the course, but that did not translate into good finishes for either of the teams overall as the men placed last out of nine teams in the WIAC meet, while the women finished eighth out of nine teams.

It was the “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Game” at Ramer Field on Saturday evening as the UW-River Falls women’s soccer team defeated the UW-Platteville Pioneers by a score of 3-1.

Head Coach Patti Ford said a split over the weekend would keep her UW-River Falls Falcons in the hunt for the conference tournament. The Falcons didn’t split, but instead won both of their home conference matches this past weekend.

The rest of the WIAC better pay attention to the UW-River Falls women’s soccer team. The Falcons have not lost a game since Sept. 3, and they are looking strong as they proceed into conference play.
