Chancellor Betz set to resign

April 8, 2008

Chancellor Don Betz announced Tuesday that he will resign his position at the end of June to assume the presidency of the three-campus Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.

Betz was previously affiliated with Northeaster State University from 1971-1993. While there he had several different administrative and educational duties.

"I taught my first college class at Northeastern State University in 1971 as a brand new assistant professor of political science and served the institution for over 23 years. For Susanne and I, the opportunity to return to NSU is like going home," Betz said in a press release.

UW System President Kevin P. Reilly, along with the UW-System Board of Regents, will begin a national search for a new chancellor.

“Needless to say, this is a real loss for the UW-River Falls campus, and for the entire state. Chancellor Betz has been an exceptional leader and a wonderful colleague, and we will all miss his enlivening presence in the UW System,” Reilly said in a press release.

Reilly announced that Provost Connie Foster will succeed Betz as interim chancellor. College of Arts and Sciences Dean Terry Brown will assume the interim provost position.
