Dressing for success at the 2012 Career Fair

October 5, 2012

The 21st annual Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 in the Riverview Ballroom of the University Center.

Like previous years, the Career Fair will be enforcing a dress code. Students who plan on attending will be required to follow this dress code.

First impressions are important at the Career Fair. Students are representing themselves and dressing for success sends a message to the employers about how serious the student is about their career search. An employer will respect the student more and will take them more seriously as a recruit for employment.

Suits, ties, khakis, dress pants, dress shoes, knee-length skirts, sweaters, dress shirts and blazers are recommended items. Inappropriate dress includes sweatshirts, sweatpants, shorts, t-shirts, pants with holes, hats or flip-flops. Any student who shows up to the Career Fair dressed inappropriately will be turned away or asked to change.

The Career Fair dress code began when attending employers commented on how UWRF students were not dressed professionally. The employers stated that they saw students wearing sweatpants and flip-flops to the fair. After the dress code was enforced, Career Services received positive feedback such as from employers.
