Students encouraged to make the most of summer alongside UW-River Falls

First and foremost, congratulations to the UW-River Falls graduates of spring semester 2012! We hope that you have enjoyed your time here at UWRF and have grown academically as well as individually.
With the end of the academic year in sight, many students’ minds are filled with thoughts of summer. Even though the school year has been arduous and stressful, students should still strive to finish out the school year strong. Summer vacation will be much more gratifying after practicing diligent studying during finals week.
No matter if you are a first-year student or soon-to-be graduate, we here at the Student Voice urge you to have a plan. Set reasonable goals for yourself and accomplish!
Not only are internships and jobs important for students to have during the summer months for financial reasons, but also are crucial for resumes. Additionally, volunteer opportunities are significant to development, as they add to personal character and humility and allow for individuals to obtain a better perspective of the world.
Furthermore, it’s not too late to sign up for summer classes. Taking the time to get ahead or catch up will appear to your best advantage academically.
Think of what you can do to better yourself and the world around you and never be afraid to accept a challenge.
The UWRF campus has been making strides to better itself as part of the “Rising to Distinction” campaign. At a fundraising event held in the University Center on April 28, UWRF and the UWRF Foundation announced the launch of their first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign. “Rising to Distinction” seeks to raise $20 million by June 30, 2016, in order to support a variety of initiatives, including student financial aid, faculty support, student learning opportunities and facilities.
Campaign Chair Bill Boehm announced that $7,201,510 has already been raised towards the $20 million goal.
Improvements to the campus as part of the Cascade Project will also be ongoing throughout the summer.
No matter what the summer has in store for you, just be sure to make the most of it.
