Concerned citizen encourages support for local businesses

May 4, 2012

As is no surprise, the beginning of construction on Cascade Avenue has presented many challenges. Convenient parking has been difficult to find, let alone finding a place to cross the street. One challenge that has gone largely unnoticed is the plight of local businesses affected by construction.

I have personally spoken with local business owners who inform me that business is down significantly in recent weeks. With the end of the academic year upon us and many students departing home for the summer, patronage to these fine establishments is sure to decrease further. With this being the case, we must support our local businesses during these trying times.

I urge everyone to visit one of these establishments, such as Mariachi Loco before departing for summer vacation. Students play a major role in the welfare of our local economy. Patronage during these difficult times will help to ensure that these businesses are able to prosper into the future.

Spring is a wonderful time to try new things like the J.J. Gargantuan at Jimmy Johns or, if you’re in the mood for a bit of Mexican flare, I highly recommend the Ben Special (consisting of two tacos with ground beef and cheese, no beans and extra rice) at Mariachi Loco. Tell them Ben sent you, I’m sure all the businesses on Cascade Avenue will greatly appreciate it.
