First UWRF homecoming fun

It’s homecoming this week for UW-River Falls and what better way to show your school pride than celebrating with the students and staff. This is my first UWRF homecoming so I am making it a point to participate in as many of the activities that I am able to.
As you may have noticed, there are many art projects being displayed around campus, including black and white painted boards made into boxes. A few of my friends are in the art classes that were assigned make these boxes and were excited to see their hard work displayed. There are also cardboard chairs located outside the University Center that were made to hold a 150 pound person. Be sure to wander around campus and see all of the neat artwork that students put their time and dedication into.
Tuesday night was Bingo at Pete’s Creek in the UC, I participated with a few of my friends, and I really enjoyed it. There were some fun prizes such as hats, window decals and a sweatshirt-blanket. The grand prize was a $50 gift card to the Falcon Shop. Bingo participants were entertained with humor and enthusiasm which really made for a great night out with friends and other residents from my residence hall.
Spencer West was here on Wednesday evening, giving an eye-opening presentation about never losing faith in yourself and having courage, for Disability Awareness month. After losing both of his legs at the age of five, West had to learn how to not let losing his legs affect him negatively his whole life. Through his ordeal, he has made an impact on many with his humor and motivation to make your life the best it can be no matter the circumstances.
Along with the art projects that are being displayed throughout the week on campus, students and staff were presented with the opportunity to be artistic themselves by tie-dyeing t-shirts in the UC. Along with this artistic activity, there was a beanbag tournament and a live music performance by Sepia Tone.
At 8 p.m. on Oct. 7, there will be a Lip Sync and Variety show in the Falcon’s Nest at the UC at 8 p.m. There is a chance to win great prizes for the best performance at the show. It will be a great night to get together with friends to support and watch the talents of UWRF students.
To conclude homecoming week, Saturday will be a day full of great activities. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. in downtown River Falls where there will be many floats ready to greet the parade bystanders as they make their way down Main Street. Following the parade there will be tailgating at 11 a.m. in the UC Mall. The women’s volleyball team will be taking on UW-Stevens Point at noon in the Karges Gymnasium and the Falcon football game will begin at 1 p.m. at Ramer Field. The sporting events on Saturday would be the perfect time to show off your school spirit and support the teams.
After the volleyball and football games on Saturday, there will be a homecoming Symphony Band and Jazz Ensemble Concert at 7:30 in the Abbot Concert Hall in Kleinpell Fine Arts. Tickets will be available at the door.
If you are looking for a good laugh, Comedian Roy Wood Jr. will be the Riverview Ballroom in the UC at 8 p.m. After the comedian, there will be a DJ dance at 9 p.m. in the Falcon’s Nest where you will be able to have a good time dancing with friends and creating opportunities to meet new people.
