UWRF wins $5,000 sustainability award
February 20, 2024
UW-River Falls placed first in the Higher Education Kit Challenge, a statewide sustainability competition sponsored by the energy efficiency organization Focus on Energy. 11 Wisconsin colleges participated in the challenge, which was held from July 1 to Oct. 31, 2023. Focus on Energy presented UWRF with an award of $5,000 on Dec. 7, 2023.

Campus event celebrates campus sustainability month

The UW-River Falls Office of Sustainability hosted an event on Oct. 1 to observe Campus Sustainability month. The fair was a gathering of about 25 organizations, including student clubs as well as off-campus organizations from around the River Falls community. The Office of Sustainability at UWRF is focused on improving sustainability campus-wide, which includes everything from overseeing campus recycling and waste management, to academics, to engaging the student body and the public. If you missed the fair, there are still plenty of ways to get involved.
UWRF receives gold rating in STARS sustainability evaluation

This semester, UW-River Falls was recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for its improved sustainability initiatives. For the first time, the school was awarded the gold rating on AASHE’s STARS evaluation.

In 2013, the Environmental Corps of Sustainability club was created for the purpose of pressuring the UWRF chancellor and board of directors to divest – or pull money and assets – from the fossil fuel industry. Last fall a new sustainable justice minor was launched on campus that exposes students to sustainability on a trans-disciplinary level.
