Campus event celebrates campus sustainability month

The UW-River Falls Office of Sustainability hosted an event on Oct. 1 to observe Campus Sustainability month. The fair was a gathering of about 25 organizations, including student clubs as well as off-campus organizations from around the River Falls community.  The Office of Sustainability at UWRF is focused on improving sustainability campus-wide, which includes everything from overseeing campus recycling and waste management, to academics, to engaging the student body and the public. If you missed the fair, there are still plenty of ways to get involved.

Multi-factor authentication becomes available to all UWRF students this fall semester

This semester, UW-River Falls has introduced a new two-factor authentication option to students called DUO. This form of multi-factor authentication was available and required last year for all staff, faculty and student employees. It is now an option that is open to everyone on campus.

New UWRF chief information security officer position introduced to improve campus information security

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is welcoming a new Campus Chief Information Security Officer, Ken Ries. Ken Ries has held this position at UWRF for about five weeks, however he has extensive experience within the field of information security. Ken Ries has a Bachelor of Science in technical education and a Masters in leadership and most recently completed a certificate in Cybersecurity and Privacy Law from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St.Paul, MN.

University of Wisconsin-River Falls hosts the 55th annual rodeo

University of Wisconsin-River Falls hosted the 55th annual rodeo during the weekend of Friday Sep. 6 and Saturday Sep. 7 2019. There were about 3000 attendees this year and over eight colleges within the great plains region participated in the competitions. Some of these colleges include: UWRF, Iowa State University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, South Dakota State University and several others. The university’s Rodeo Club hosts a rodeo each year and also travels to several others across the great plains region.

Student Government Association (SGA) held elections for new leadership positions from April 16 to April 18. Elections determined who would fill the spots on SGA for the upcoming year.

Vegetarian diet shows health benefits

Switching to a plant based diet and embracing a vegetarian lifestyle can be a huge transition. However, for me, making this switch has come with several benefits. It was originally a hard decision for many reasons. It meant giving up some of my favorite food, my body went through a tremendous change, and at first it was hard to find new alternatives to getting the right amount of nutrients that my body needed. Still, all these challenges brought so many benefits.

Campus spotlights Autism Awareness month

UWRF hosted the Moreland family to talk about their experiences, struggles and triumphs with Autism on April 2, for National Autism Awareness day. The month of April is dedicated to raising awareness for autism and the Moreland family has dedicated a large part of their life to raising awareness and helping others.

Campus transitions to Canvas

This semester UW-River Falls embraced a new alternative to the previous learning management system, Desire 2 Learn (D2L). Canvas, a Digital Learning Environment (DLE) is now the new platform for UWRF, as well as the rest of the UW-System schools.
