Opportunity Fair aims to help UW-River Falls students make connections

The second annual Opportunity Fair at UW-River Falls, hosted in partnership between Career Services and Student Involvement, will see an increase of booths for organizations and businesses from last year.

Student Senate vice president resigns

On Sunday, Dec. 6, DeGroote sent a letter to Student Senate President Christopher Morgan, resigning from her position as vice president, effective immediately. In her letter, she stated that as a biochemistry and economics double major with the intention of becoming a pediatrician after graduation, the position of vice president no longer impacted her studies and long term goals in a positive way.

UW-River Falls considers seminar to help freshmen acclimate to college

The seminar would be meant to target first-year, undecided students at UWRF and include a broad overview of the options that are offered at the university. The course would be mandatory for undecided majors, and would act as an elective course lasting one semester, according to Academic Council Chair Peter Vermeland.

Terrorist attacks in Paris brings back 9/11 memories

As you probably all have heard at this point, there was a terrorist attack on Paris over the weekend in which gunmen and suicide bombers attacked a concert hall, a major stadium, and restaurants and bars almost simultaneously. It was an obvious planned attack against the innocent citizens of Paris, killing at least 129 people and injuring hundreds. It was later revealed that ISIS was behind these attacks, sending the message that they are not done.

ECOS aims to make campus more sustainable

With a student-led sustainability campaign emerging at UW-Stout in Menomonie, students at UW-River Falls are re-evaluating the university’s approach to nonrenewable energy. The Environmental Corps of Sustainability (ECOS), a student organization that spreads awareness about sustainability on campus and advocates for further sustainability efforts to be made at UWRF, will likely take on the Seize the Grid campaign to go along with its current divestment plan, according to ECOS founder Daniel Saunders.

'Rising to Distinction' fundraiser nears $20 million goal

The “Rising to Distinction” fundraising campaign at UW-River Falls is closing in its goal of raising $20 million in five years. As of June 30, more than $18 million had been donated or pledged, according to the University website.
