Alumni Spotlight: History of UWRF alumna scholarship

“Mothers and daughters are connected. In ways we don’t even know.” Tricia Burger told me this about her mom, Helen Alexander Kuyper Evans. A UW-River Falls Journalism and English alumna from the class of 1969, Evans is remembered by her family and friends as someone who could light up the entire room as soon as she walked in. Evans had a whirlwind of a college experience and left a mark on River Falls that is still remembered today.

Post-pandemic world raises lifestyle questions

After over a year of masks, social distancing, and living in a mainly online world, we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. With vaccines becoming increasingly available to all age groups, some more relaxed guidelines are being put into place. People are anxious to get back to some kind of “normal” without knowing what normal means at this point? After months of not having to get ready to go out, how do we all adjust and “re-enter” the world?

Now that we have been taking many courses through distance learning and online methods, it may be time to look at what we have actually learned during the past 10 months. Though there are many challenges that come about with online learning, in a global pandemic it was necessary.

UW-River Falls organization creates campaign to encourage students to vote

Election day is occurring in less than one week on Nov. 3. Eligible voters are gathering information on how they can cast their vote safely and securely this upcoming election. The UW-River Falls Office of Student Involvement developed a platform to easily layout information they believe is valuable for students during this election season.

UWRF fall career fair goes virtual

The fall career fair for UW-River Falls will be held virtually on Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to COVID-19 concerns.

UWRF lifts shelter in place order and resumes hybrid classes

As of Monday, Oct. 3 the shelter in place order on campus at UW-River Falls will be complete. Interim Chancellor Connie Foster explained the next steps that will be taken in an email to students on Tuesday, Sept. 29. “ These efforts have allowed us to slow the spread of COVID-19 and our indicators are showing positivity rates at a much more manageable level,” said Foster.

UWRF responds to rising positive coronavirus cases

As of 7 p.m. on Sept. 18, the UW-River Falls campus will be following shelter-in-place orders through Oct. 3. There will also be a pause on all in-person classes during this time. This information is according to an email sent to all students from Interim Chancellor Connie Foster.

Number of positive COVID cases increase on UWRF campus

As of Sept. 15, there are a total of 26 positive cases for COVID-19 on the UW-River Falls campus, according to data from the university website. In an email from Chancellor Connie Foster, she wrote that this is an increase compared to the nine positive coronavirus cases that had been reported on Sept. 14.

UWRF hosts virtual involvement fair for student organizations

The University is adjusting multiple events to be fully online due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year, the Involvement Fair will be held 100% virtual through the Blackboard Collaborative Platform. The event will be held from Sept. 2nd- Sept. 4th running from 8 a.m to 5:30 p.m each day.

UWRF facilitates conversation around mental health

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has made addressing mental health a priority this spring semester. Student Health and Counseling Services has teamed up with Student Involvement to create a new program to break the stigma around talking about mental health.
