Rick Bowen court dedication reflects how far UWRF basketball has come
Rick Bowen arrived on the UW-River Falls campus in 1986 to look at the job opening for the head men’s basketball coach. According to Bowen, he enjoyed the community within the campus and took the job expecting to be in River Falls for maybe two years before moving on.

Here first but nearly forgotten, Native Americans celebrate this November
Aiyana Ledwein, a senior softball player, is one of the few Native American athletes at UWRF. She is a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, and her birth mom lived on a reservation in eastern Wisconsin before moving to Minnesota.

Coach profile: Jeff Berkhof looks to lead Falcons back to NCAA tournament
Jeff Berkhof enters his 12th season as the head coach for UWRF men’s basketball. He has the second most wins in program history, only trailing his former coach Rick Bowen for career wins. Last year his team finished 25-4 and won the WIAC regular season title and WIAC tournament. The team also completed a 17-game win streak, the longest in program history.

UWRF women’s cross-country team runs to first ranking in school history
It was a warm September day when the UWRF women’s cross-country team lined up for one of their most difficult races of the year. Following cold temperatures during training and a mild end of summer, the temperature soared to over 90 degrees by the time the Roy Griak Invitational began at the University of Minnesota. The meet is often one of the toughest on the schedule, and this year would be no different.

Faculty Senate aims to keep profs from losing pay on technicalities
Doug Margolis has been a professor in the TESOL (teaching English as a second language) program at UW-River Falls since 2012. In 2014, he took six students to South Korea for a J-term trip to help them teach English to Korean students in high schools.
