Enforcement of university smoking ban should be up to the smoker, not others
UW-River Falls is supposed to be a tobacco-free campus, but this semester, a visible increase in smokers can be seen in front of North Hall. It seems that the cement and brick structure near Cascade Avenue has become the new “smoker’s corner,” often filled with groups of people puffing away as students pass by during the day.

Healthier food options on campus are a must
UWRF’s food provider, Chartwells, is heading into its second year of its seven-year contract. In June of 2015, Chartwells took over dining services from Sodexo. With the exit of Sodexo came the loss of many healthy food options for students.

Yanny honored as UW-River Falls 2016 Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturist
Michael Yanny, owner of JN Plant Selections and Senior Horticulturalist at Johnson’s Nursery in Menomonee Falls, was honored as the 2016 Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturalist by the UW-River Falls College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) at their 50th Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet April 21.

Six UW-River Falls students honored with Chancellor’s Award
Six University of Wisconsin-River Falls students received the 2016 Chancellor’s Award for Students and were honored at a ceremony on campus April 28. The Chancellor’s Award for Students is the highest non-academic honor a student can receive at UW-River Falls.

‘No confidence’ vote from faculty senate highlights unease at UWRF
On Wednesday, May 4, the UW-River Falls Faculty Senate passed a resolution of no confidence in UW System President Ray Cross and the Board of Regents. Through this action, the Faculty Senate condemned the weakening the tenure and shared governance in the UW System and called for them to recommit themselves to the Wisconsin Idea.

University of Wisconsin-River Falls Stage and Screen Arts students won big during the 2016 NATAS (National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) Upper Midwest Student Production Awards held April 10 at the Radisson Blu Hotel at Mall of America.

UWRF dairy team earns first place at competition
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls dairy team earned a first place award in the North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) held in Syracuse, N.Y., April 7-9. This was the 15th year of this international competition, which involved 128 students from 32 different universities.
