Faculty free time: Horticulture professor has passion for plants
David Zlesak is a professor of horticulture at UW-River Falls and has been teaching plant science at the university for 11 years. Before teaching at UWRF, Zlesak was involved in some research at the University of Minnesota as an extension and worked with grower groups, industry members and master gardener volunteers. Zlesak is also an alumnus of UWRF and graduated with a degree in horticulture in 1993.

CBD interest grows among the U.S population
Cannabidiol (CBD) has been growing rapidly nationwide, especially in recent months. The product is legal in a majority of states and is picking up interest rapidly. In River Falls, a new CBD store has opened called American Shaman CBD. Puff Puff Glass, a local tobacco shop has started carrying the product as well.

UWRF student accounts compromised during J-term phishing attack
A phishing email was sent to UW-River Falls students during the month of January that closely resembled a UWRF login page. The email was sent to about 2,000 student accounts and 468 student accounts were compromised.

University police investigate sexual assault in parking lot
A sexual assault occurred on Nov. 18 on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls campus. The assault happened at 6:30 a.m. in the “J” parking lot, which is located between Hagestad Hall and the Agricultural Science Building.

UWRF community mourns the death of former student and football player
A former University of Wisconsin-River Falls student died Oct. 12 by suicide. Ben Zayzay 19, was a football player on the UWRF football team and was also a member of the Black Student Union.

Healthy Living Community allows substance free living choice for students
Students at UW-River Falls who want nothing to do with drug or alcohol use can opt to live in a residence hall that is home to the Healthy Living Community. “The main core of the community is that it is substance free, meaning no use of alcohol even if they are of age and no drug use,” said Karla Thoennes, the director of Residence Life.
