UWRF will see decrease in international students next year

While the number of international students has more than doubled in the past five years, UW-River Falls may soon see a decrease, according to data compiled by the UWRF Office of Institutional Research.

Student Senate update: Complications prevent athletics referendum from passing

Student Senate had its last meeting of the semester on Tuesday, May 5. During this meeting, Senate discussed several motions, including the “Recreation and Sports Facility Bylaw Amendment” and the “Athletic Allocable Segregated Fee,” which was postponed at the previous Senate meeting in order for the motion to go through the correct channels before being voted upon.

There was a big turnout for the Student Senate meeting on Tuesday, April 28, and because I now write this column every week encouraging people to educate themselves about what Senate is doing, this made me extremely happy.

For most students, UWRF drops minor requirement

The change to make minors optional for students was part of a broader effort to try to provide students the flexibility that they will need to pursue courses that meet their personal and professional goals, according to Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies Wes Chapin.

Student Senate update: 'The Riv' will flow

I don’t know about anyone else, but I think that the fact that less than half of the students even open the email to access “The Riv” shows that yet another campus newsletter isn't needed or wanted by the student body.

Student Senate president now required to live on campus

The changes that the amendment calls for includes: requiring the Senate president to live on campus during the academic year; adding the position of a chief administrator to work over the summer to attend to Senate business; and having the Senate president be paid during the months of September through April, taking away the summer pay in order to pay the chief administrator. After much discussion on the main amendment, it passed and will be effective as of next year.

Student Senate threatens to freeze Student Voice and WRFW funding

Student Senate met Tuesday night and discussed several motions, including the Recognized Student Organization (RSO) request for information, the varsity sport review resolution, the UW System naming resolution, and the student media compliance resolution.

USA Today pitches mobile app for media organization

A new digital app for smart phones and tablets may be coming to campus that will change the way students read the news. On March 3, Mary Ellen Couture, a regional sales manager for USA Today, came to a UW-River Falls Student Senate meeting and pitched the USA Today app called “The Buzz.”
