Politics don’t stop after Election Day, stay involved

Election Day is finally upon us.
However, just because the political ads on TV, the Internet and our political emails stop doesn’t mean that politics stop as well. After the elections are over Democrats and Republicans will still be fighting over what laws and policies should be passed or not passed. Politics will not come to a screeching halt on Nov. 7.
The election will be over, but that doesn’t mean that every person has to stop paying attention to politics. Millions of people across the country, including college students, have increased their political awareness during this election cycle.
However, it is more than likely that come Nov. 7 the majority of these same people won’t pay attention to politics until the next presidential election in 2016.
There is no reason why this should be the case.
Keep track of what is happening in the political world. If the candidate you supported gets elected then follow up on them. Make sure that they are doing what they said and, if not, send them a letter. Let them know that you, as a voter, are not happy.
There are plenty of other ways to stay involved as well. If the election has woken you up to the state of politics in the country then join a political group such as the College Democrats or College Republicans.
It may seem obvious, but still very important, but keep up on the current political news. Know what is happening both domestically and internationally.
It may be surprise some people to know that politics happens 24/7 and it’s actually possible to keep up with the major things happening.
Speaking of getting information, there are many ways one can do that. One is by consuming TV and print news. However, as most people know, a fair majority of the news outlets are slightly biased towards either the left or the right.
The challenge here is to at least pay some attention to the news outlets that do not support your views. That way you can be informed on both sides of an issue.
Politics don’t just end when this election season is over. Politics continue on and it is up to you to keep up with what our government is doing. Heck, don’t just keep up with it, get involved. Join organizations and/or contact your representatives and have your voice heard.
Remember, politics will still affect you, so don’t stop caring just because this election cycle is over.
