As October 31 approaches, the Halloween spirit has swept over UW-River Falls, and spooky decorations and events have appeared from the shadows across campus.

Many departments, such as DoTS and the Disability Resource Center, to name two, have decorated their offices to commemorate the holiday, and have set out buckets of candy for their visitors. Chalmer Davee Library held its annual ‘2-Sentence Horror Story Content,’ where students submitted their horror stories online or at the library via paper cutouts of pumpkins.

Submissions for the contest ended on Oct. 17. When the results are announced on Chalmer Davee Library’s social media accounts, the top three submissions will receive prizes.

On Oct. 17, hundreds of students turned out for Grimm Hall’s annual haunted house, held in the hall’s lobby and hosted by the Hall Council and RAs of Grimm as well as McMillan Hall. Volunteers had decorated the lobby with a variety of horror-themed scenes: a maze of black curtains, a room haunted by a ghostly bride, a hospital room with an operating table, a dining room with cannibals and fake human remains, a hallway filled with cobwebs, and more. Dozens of volunteers dressed up to bring the scenes to life and scare students during the two-hour event.

Five days later, Oct. 22 saw Residence Life’s annual Halloween in the Halls event, where parents and kids from the River Falls area visited the residence halls to trick-or-treat.

Oct. 22 also saw mini pumpkin painting in the University Center for UWRF Student Involvement’s monthly Maker’s Night. The event also included other DIY crafts and “fall-themed foods,” according to its FalconsConnect page. Many student organizations have held or will hold their own Halloween events as well, such as All Booked’s Oct. 28 Halloween Celebration and Aspiring Educators’ Oct. 29 Halloween Social.
