UWRF Provost Delgado finalist for president of Metropolitan State University

March 20, 2016

Fernando Delgado, UW-River Falls’ provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, has been named as one of the two finalists being considered for the position of president at Metropolitan State University in Minnesota.

According to Metro State’s website, the president reports to the chancellor and serves as chief executive officer, responsible for “leading the faculty and staff in fulfilling the missions of the institution” and serving on the Leadership Council.

The other finalist who has been announced for this position is Virginia “Ginny” Arthur, current executive vice president and provost at Metropolitan State University. Arthur has been at the university since 2009, previously holding the position of provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Delgado has been working at UWRF since 2009 with his current job title.

This is not the first time in recent years that Delgado has been a finalist for a position at another university. In the spring of 2015 he was a finalist to become president of Western Oregon University. After a series of interviews and meetings, however, the search committee chose Rex Fuller, former provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Eastern Washington University.

Delgado will be visiting the Metropolitan State University campus on Tuesday, March 22, for a series of meetings and open forums with university staff, students and faculty.

When contacted for a comment, Delgado simply said that it is an honor to be a finalist for the position.
