Loss unable to silence fans

This last Monday, it seemed that there was this aura of sadness and disappointment coming from a lot of students on campus. I can only imagine that the Vikings starting off 0-2 has something to do with that. Sure, my beloved Green Bay Packers are 2-0, but I’m not going to sit here and claim that we’re Super Bowl bound just yet. It’s my favorite time of year, and there is a lot of NFL football yet to be played.

I love the border battle, and I couldn’t think of a better place to soak in the misery of Vikings fans than at our beloved UW-River Falls. Since most Viking fans are really good at boasting and bragging about absolutely nothing, I urge you Minnesota fans to keep trash talking to us Packers fans. I actually believe that the Vikings will have a decent season, and I couldn’t be more excited for our upcoming meeting, but honestly, the Vikings are—for lack of a better word—screwed.

For starters, do us Packers fans (and yourselves) a favor and stop talking trash about Aaron Rodgers. I understand that you’re jealous that our organization has had a star franchise quarterback for 20 years. It almost seems unfair to go from Favre to Rodgers, but I’m not complaining. Oh, and speaking of Brett, please stop telling me how amazing he is, because I think he might have run out of gas this year. Don’t you remember when he was embarrassing your organization for over a decade with us? I guess if I had so many years of disappointment, I’d have a “bad memory” as well.

To be fair, the Vikings have an incredible amount of talent. Despite my pure hatred for your organization, I greatly respect players like Jared Allen, Adrian Peterson and of course players of Packer past like Favre and Ryan Longwell.

Vikings fans have a nasty habit of being cocky without legit justification. Sure, Minnesota made it to the NFC championship game last year and beat us twice, and I still hear all about it. It was sad (okay, awesome, actually) how the championship game ended, because Favre did something similar in the 2007 season. Don’t tell me, or any other Packers fan that we live in the past. Even if that were the case, it’s better to live in the past than live in some fantasy world where the Vikings are this “unstoppable force.” I think you best stick to bragging about the Twins, Minnesota. Your Vikings organization doesn’t really threaten us at all. You boasting to me at this point would be like me telling you that the Brewers are an outstanding organization, much better than the Twins. It would be irrational and downright stupid. Think about what you’re really representing when you talk trash to us Packers fans.

Green Bay Packers fans, get excited. As soon as our dominance of the Bills ended on Sunday, I immediately thought “Okay, how many hours until the showdown with the Bears?” Even if we fall to the Bears this Monday, I won’t be worried. I think the Packers are going to be one of the most important things an NFL team can be, and that’s consistent.

Do I wish the “Pack” would go 14-2 and crush the Vikings in both meetings?

Of course, but I’m a realist, and I think it is safe to say that you can believe some of the hype that is behind our organization. With a leader like Rodgers, a stellar receiving core (Jermichael Finley is a beast), and weapons like Charles Woodson and Clay Matthews on defense, I’m certain the Green Bay Packers will not only be owning the NFC North division for the next 5 or more years, but owning the NFC on the whole. Give credit to Thompson for finding us some incredible stars in the last couple years, as well as bringing in Dom Capers last year. I’m convinced we’ve got it all my friends.

One of my favorite Beatles songs goes something like “Life is very short, and there’s no time for fussing and fighting my friends.” Obviously, The Beatles weren’t major football fans. When it comes to Viking fans, I don’t want to “work it out,” I’d much rather shove every defeat right in their face.

Let’s go Pack!
